VoBB Vendor RadiSys Discusses Technology's Advantages

Perhaps you weren't aware of it, but these days modular, standards-based IP network infrastructure allows service providers to offer multimedia-rich Voice over Broadband services with greater cost efficiency.

Their RadiSys (News - Alert) SIPware VoBB delivers features, "with the flexibility and scalability to meet individual network needs," company officials say, describing it as a turnkey, software-based product delivering reduced operating costs and designed for service providers "deploying primary and secondary line voice services over broadband networks."

The case with other VoBB offerings

As is the case with other VoBB offerings, the system’s inherent functionality, scalability and flexibility lets service providers deploy services that match their market strategy and business model.

VoBB isn't a new thing, of course. Back in the halcyon days of 2005, TMCnet was running the news that Sonus Networks was showcasing its voice over wireless broadband capabilities with Motorola (News - Alert).

Sonus demonstrated its wireless VoBB using Motorola's Canopy wireless broadband system to, "highlight how service providers globally can deliver the benefits of VoIP over a wireless broadband platform," company officials said at the time.

Voice over wireless broadband "offers consumers and network operators alike an extraordinary value proposition. It eliminates the expensive infrastructure costs associated with establishing last-mile, wired connectivity to the home, while giving consumers access to reliable, high speed, robust voice and data services, said Hassan Ahmed, chairman and CEO of Sonus Networks (News - Alert) at the time.

In addition, company officials noted back in 2005, that by using an IMS-based core voice over broadband network architecture, "service providers have a unique platform that not only allows a differentiated consumer experience today, but also establishes a framework for future services based on fixed-mobile convergence."

Multimedia conferencing, audio/video ringback tones, hosted VoIP communications, unified messaging and other services all share the need for IP audio and video media packet processing...
