
VoIP market seen doubling
Within 5 years, the market for calling people via the Internet is expected to double to $40 bil, according to Point Topic. In 2010, global revenue for fixed-line voice over Internet protocol services grew 12.6% to $17.3 bil. Skype, which is being bought by Microsoft, could generate $2 bil a year by 2016, it said. The FCC said recently that consumer and business use of VoIP rose 21% in the year ended June 2010 and that calling via traditional lines dropped 8%.
