VoIP Service: Elektrobit introduces rugged VoIP phones for military
Announced at Eurosatory, a military trade show held in Paris, these new VoIP phones are pretty impressive. They’re both very rugged, able to withstand the trauma of field work, but they’re not just muscle.
The Field Phone has an integrated speaker
The Field Phone has an integrated speaker, Ethernet and SHDSL connectivity, and actually provides that Ethernet connection for other field devices. Its SHDSL allows streaming of maps, data, and other real-time updates in the field both over voice and broadband.
The Desktop Phone, as per its name, is meant to stay stationary in either a command post or a vehicle, though it can be wall-mounted as well as sit on a desktop (flexibility!).
Importantly, these VoIP phones can operate either with other Elektrobit hardware (like the EB Tough VoIP Terminal) or independently, integrated with the existing network. They’re pretty top-quality equipment, getting some serious buzz in the military communications community. No word on when they’ll be showing up, though.
