Western Power completes second stage of UC project
Western Power has completed the deployment of a scalable Telecommunications Network Management System to support the increasing growth and complexity of its network.
The deployment follows the installation of an integrated inventory management and alarm management system in the first phase of the project, with Western Power manager of secondary systems engineering, Al Edgar, saying that the deployment by Clarity has provided the company with benefits including enhanced capabilities to monitor network health.
"Without the capabilities of the unified standards-based platform Clarity has delivered, we simply would not have been able to cope with the explosive growth in network components and complexity we have seen over the last few years."
Western Power and Clarity are currently planning the third phase of the project, which will include more support for smart grid initiatives and an increased asset life for expanding communications network.
The transmission
The transmission and distribution business, based in Western Australia, is responsible for the sage distribution of electricity in the South West Interconnected System and has an asset base of some $3 billion.
