"I have seen a dramatic shift in terms of how employers are finding that it is to their advantage to accommodate work/life balance, especially for women," said Angeles M. Valenciano, vice president of business development for the Texas Diversity Council. "To remain competitive and innovative, they need to attract and maintain the best talent possible."

Business perspective

"From a business perspective, it is a retention tool to keep top talent from leaving their organization," she said. "It is important to be fully present at work. Employees are better at what they are doing because they are giving it their best."

Today's research — including smartphones, laptops and Voice over Internet Protocol — allows employees to be accessible to team members and clients anywhere. Koenigsdorf said this means more of LHH's employees are able to work from home, which saves in real estate costs and prevents the company from reducing headcount.
