XTel Communications serves up wholesale Ethernet service suite

XTel Communications, a competitive provider focused primarily on SMBs, local government agencies, public safety and school districts, has jumped into the Ethernet fray with a new service suite dedicated to its wholesale carrier customers.

Brian Flynn, VP of Xtel Communications, said that the new Ethernet service "will allow our wholesalers to offer the benefits of Ethernet services to their clientele, expanding their own brand, and will provide them with a new revenue stream." Xtel will offer a mix of Ethernet over Copper (EoC), Ethernet over SONET (EoS) and Metro Ethernet in eight markets, including Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, New York, Boston, and Washington, D.C. Although Xtel is a facilities-based service provider it does have well established network partnerships with Switch and Data (data center provider) and Level 3, in addition to striking an interconnection arrangement with Intellifiber in June.

While it did not reveal any wholesale network partners, Xtel said the new Ethernet service will complement its established base of VoIP, SIP Trunks and traditional voice services.
