
Zynga valued at more than $7 billion
Zynga, the San Francisco-based company behind popular Facebook games just as "FarmVille" and "CityVille," is in talks with potential investors to raise about $250 million, which would value the young startup at between $7 billion and $9 billion, according to a published report. The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, said in a report Monday that a decision to raise money could be weeks away and may or may not happen. The report comes as the market for Internet startups is heating up. Palo Alto-based Facebook, the biggest by a long shot, is worth $50 billion, based on its latest round of funding. AOL, in the meantime, recently agreed to buy online news and opinion service Huffington Post for $315 million and The Wall Street Journal has reported that short messaging service Twitter may nevertheless be worth $8 billion to $10 billion.
The economics of delivering video over mobile networks
Mobile research software maker Openwave Systems of Redwood City said it plans to partner with networking equipment company Juniper Networks to improve the economics of delivering video over mobile networks. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Openwave's Media Optimizer helps service providers manage mobile video delivery and user experience in accordance with congested network conditions, which leads to better quality video and smooth downloads on smartphones, feature phones, netbooks and laptops. The Media Flow product of Juniper, which is based in Sunnyvale, helps adapt video traffic according to network conditions like congestion, device capabilities and user preferences. Openwave plans to integrate its Media Optimizer into Juniper's Media Flow. Its shares climbed 13 cents, or 6.1 percent, to $2.25 in Monday trading. Juniper shares rose 16 cents to $43.57.
