Comms Alliance to develop guidelines for end-to-end performance over NBN
The two guidelines to be reviewed are G632:2007 'Quality of Service parameters for networks using the Internet Protocol' and G633:2007 'Quality of Service for networks using the Internet Protocol - Test Methods'
They specify end-to-end packet loss, delay and jitter for only a very limited range of IP services: namely class 5, best effort; class 2, signalling and interactive data; and class 0 voice telephony.
Communications Alliance said it would "work closely with NBN Co and other relevant stakeholders in reviewing the guidelines and will as well take account of changes to relevant International Telecommunications Union recommendations." Stanton said the working committee undertaking the review aimed to complete its tasks by mid-2012.
The QoS guideline review
He said the QoS guideline review was one of several NBN- related Communications Alliance activities. "Comms Alliance is as well developing an Operations Code in cooperation with NBN Co to ensure appropriate intra-industry coordination, so that processes just as customer transfer between services providers is smooth, user-friendly and pro-competitive."
