Consumers miss out on Telstra's IPv6 offering
Every device with access to a network is allocated a unequalled address, with IPv6 an addressing scheme in other words gradually replacing the existing IPv4 standard. The last IPv4 allocation block was given out previously this year, meaning a shortage of IPv4 addresses is a very real prospect over the course of the straightway couple of years.
"By dual stacking IPv4 and IPv6 in our network, clients can opt into IPv6 in their own time, and according to the lifecycle upgrade of their existing equipment," David Robertson, Director of Transport and Routing at Telstra said yesterday.
