EMC launches 42 products at annual conference

Hopkinton-based EMC Corp. announced the launch of 42 new hybrid cloud-related technologies and products which, the company says, solidifies its leadership in the data storage, management and security markets at an event Monday in Las Vegas. The company kicked off its annual EMC World 2012 on Monday, themed "Transform: IT + Business + Yourself," with an announcement of its largest-ever launch, which included a new VMAX family of enterprise storage arrays that streamline operations, the then and there version of its Isilon OneFS scale-out Network Attached Storage operating system which incorporates more data protection, security, system performance and interoperability, and several other enhancements to its existing offerings. Last week, the company introduced a new, simplified enterprise-class pre-packaged storage system, called the VMAX Service Provider. The data storage giant, one of the state’s largest high-tech companies, said the launch is the culmination of a series of strategic acquisitions and innovations EMC has made in the last year and a half. "The onset of virtualization, cloud computing and big data analytics... have restored data to its rightful place as the center of IT gravity," said Pat Gelsinger, president and COO of EMC’s Information Infrastructure Products in a written statement. "The shift is swift and irreversible, from dedicated infrastructure silos built around specific applications where data is either locked in a specific application or orbits the periphery, to a data-centric approach to computing." EMC World, which extends through May 25, has a record 13,000 attendees this year. Last year’s event hosted the first-ever "Data Scientist Summit," intended to bring at the same time data scientists and leaders from industry and academia to exchange ideas.
