Garner Police investigate air conditioner theft

The Garner Police Department currently is investigating a series of thefts that they believe are related. Beginning in mid October, thefts of air conditioners increased. Thieves target air conditioners to sell the valuable copper and aluminum parts inside. Victims have ranged from vacant homes to businesses closed for the weekend.

Specific neighborhood is being targeted

Police noticed that a specific neighborhood is being targeted, so on Dec. 7, they conducted a telephone notification to residents of the Cloverdale subdivision in north west Garner. Police conducted the telephone notification to alert neighbors to the thefts and increase awareness.

Other residents have been victimized, nevertheless this subdivision has experienced more theft than others. Businesses along US 70 and a business park off Raynor Road as well have been recent targets. Since October, more than $90,000 in air conditioners and parts have been stolen city wide.
