GENBAND Conducts First Successful IPv6 PacketCable™ 2.0 Network Call at CableLabs Interoperability Event

GENBAND, a leading developer of IP infrastructure and application solutions, today announced that it successfully completed the first IPv6 call between a PacketCableTM specification version 2.0 compatible SIP communications application server and an IPv6 PC2.0 Embedded Digital Voice Adapter while a CableLabs Interoperability Event in Louisville, CO on September 21, 2011. As the then generation Internet Protocol replacing IPv4, IPv6 solves the issue of address space exhaustion and improves security for real-time communications. These tests used the SIP signaling protocol specified by PacketCableTM as the agreed-upon standard for handling voice and multimedia communications over straightway-generation MSO IP networks. GENBAND's S3™ Session Border Controller processed this first PC2.0 IPv6 call in conjunction with GENBAND's C20™ Converged Softswitch and A2™ Communications Application Server platform, translating IPv4 to IPv6 addressing, both for session signaling and speech path.

"The CableLabs hosted event created the ideal environment to trial PC2.0 IPv6 calls and interoperability with IPv4," said BG Kumar, GENBAND's President of Networking and Applications. "Performing what we believe to be the first successful PC2.0 IPv6 call is in point of fact a significant milestone and is evidence of our support for MSO migration to IPv6 using PacketCable specifications. We look forward to employing breakthroughs achieved through this strategic industry collaboration in our ongoing product development."

GENBAND MSO solutions have been selected by over 80 MSO/cable operators around the world. According to innovation firm Dell'Oro Group, GENBAND holds the number one market share position in cable VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) deployments.

By pioneering this first successful PC2.0 IPv6 call and establishing interworking between actual IPv4 and IPv6 PC2.0 endpoints in an MSO operation environment, GENBAND is effectively demonstrating the cable/MSO industry migration to IPv6 and then and there generation network architectures through its portfolio of market-leading solutions.
