Google Nexus 7 pre-order buyers miffed retailers selling Android tablets first

Those who pre-ordered Google Nexus 7 tablets directly from the Google Play Store in late June are getting testy about reports that some retailers are already selling the Android 4.1 tablets this week.

Google said when it introduced the much anticipated 7-inch Android tablets at its Google I/O conference while the last week of June that the Asus-designed product would ship in mid-July. Industry watchers have started playing guessing games about when the official shipment date for the latest potential iPad killer might be, with some suggesting it would be today, July 13, and others tossing out July 19 and 23. Google itself remains mum.

Some retailers are as well said to have gotten their allotment of Nexus 7 tablets in stock, and a few jumped the gun by selling tablets previously Google put the kibosh on that. Clients of Ebuyer in the U.K. have posted pictures or tweeted online of devices they have received. And Android Central reported that GameStop has notified some clients who pre-ordered from the retailer to come in and get their Android tablet.

Engadget is reporting that those registering the earliest pre-orders directly through the Google Play Store as a matter of fact are starting to receive their Android tablets. Although Google Play nevertheless says on its order page that the $199 devices are shipping in one to two weeks.
