Huawei Set to Enter the High-End Smartphone Race With the Ascend D Quad
Samsung, Apple, HTC, and company might have a new name to watch out for in the smartphone race this year – Huawei. The China-based company has unveiled one of the world’s first quad-core smartphones in the Ascend D quad at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Huawei claims the Ascend D quad is the world’s fastest smartphone.
Before you make comments about lipstick and pigs, consider that this time, it looks like Huawei is serious about entering the high-end smartphone race. Before known for its cheaper, low-end offerings, Huawei is getting aggressive with the Ascend D quad, jumping on the Ice Cream Sandwich train. Interestingly, that 1.2GHz processor was developed in-house just for the Ascend D, so it’s hard to tell what to expect from it until we can get some hands-just in time with the device.
The Ascend D quad will feature a 4
The Ascend D quad will feature a 4.5” touchscreen with a 720p HD display and a 32-bit true color graphics processor, which promises to work then even in direct sunlight. The audio comes courtesy of Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, and the phone includes an 8 MP BSI camera and a 1.3 MP front-facing camera. 1080p full HD video recording is as well a go.
The Ascend D quad smartphones will be available worldwide in Q2 of this year, with the D1 coming in April. It’ll be interesting to see if this phone can generate enough buzz to put Huawei in a competitive position in an increasingly brutal smartphone race.
