IiNet launches cloud computing service

iiNet has entered the cloud computing business with Business Cloud - a VMware based infrastructure as a service offering targeted at the SME market.

The CEO of iiNet Business

The CEO of iiNet Business, Greg Bader, said that during virtualised computing has been used by large businesses for many years, it was often put in the 'too hard' basket for small and medium businesses. Bader told iTWire: "we have not launched the product but, however the word is out there and in Perth we are beating [prospective clients] off. The approaches we are getting the most are from the big end of town to put it more exactly than the small end."

iiNet says its share of the SME market is miniscule and much smaller than its share of the residential market, so it has considerable potential to build its business in this market. "We are leveraging our DSLAM network, our VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) network and our fibre network," Bader said.
