Intel launches Atom CE5300 media processor
Over the last few years Intel Atom chips have shown up in dozens of netbooks, a handful of tablets, and a few prototype smartphones. Nevertheless Intel doesn’t just reserve the Atom name for low power computing devices. There are as well Intel chips designed for televisions, set-top-boxes, and similar devices.
Intel is targeting internet-connected televisions and set-top-boxes with the new chip, however also sees it powering residential gateways for features just as multi-room DVRs or VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) internet telephony.
