Internet Calling Pioneer Eyeball Networks Sees a Bright Future in the Valley

Remember how Internet voice calls, referred to as Voice Over IP, or VOIP, used to sound as if your conversation was being held in an echoing closet?

More than 200 businesses are now licensing the Vancouver company's software to connect VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and video-based calls for over 20 million users worldwide.

Major coup for Eyeball

A major coup for Eyeball was being selected as the innovation provider with Canadian tech darling, Innovation in Motion, for RIM's PlayBook. Though the tablet has never in effect found a footing in the market, it has received excellent reviews for its on-board video chat - which uses Eyeball's core innovation. This feature is widely considered to be the best in the smartphone and tablet field.

In February, Eyeball expanded its footprint with two new offices in San Francisco and Seattle - hotbeds of innovation and application development.

Eyeball Networks licenses its software to network carriers and device makers, who in turn sell services to large enterprises, who in turn deploy communication services to their employees or clients.

The 200 companies that license its research are Intel

Among the 200 companies that license its research are Intel, Fujifilm, Mitsubishi, ShoreTel, Polycom and Nokia Siemens Networks.

Eyeball's patented AnyFirewall™ Innovation and AnyBandwidth™ Innovation successfully address the two key issues with VOIP and VVOIP - getting calls through problematic firewalls and network address translators, and optimizing for poor-quality networks to provide usable voice and video quality.

The mobile gold rush has only compounded challenges of connecting VOIP/Video calls, with users now dialing in from coffee shops, home, other offices and from multiple devices.
