My favourite gadget is Lync 2010, which allows real-time communications with instant messaging presence, desktop sharing, and multi-party voice and video calling.

For Enlighten, Lync is not only how we communicate with people internally nevertheless it's our phone system too.

It's great for clients who don't have Lync internally, as we can send them online meeting requests, which means they can either connect into a video conference or dial in using their phone.

If I'm not in Hamilton I'm after all able to do everything with my laptop and without needing to remote access our company network.

Microsoft has just released Lync mobile customers for Windows Phone 7 and Android, and the killer feature I'm afterwards is the call-via-work feature.

This allows you to make outbound calls using your direct dial number, which has two benefits: The first being that you have a consistent identity; and secondly, due to your Lync server making the call instead of your mobile, it can save on mobile phone costs.
