NBN Co's multi-million dollar Melbourne facility opens
There are three core areas setup at the site; a network service and operations centre that monitors the status of the nationwide network and provides support to telecommunications providers, a test facility that allows providers to trial services earlier they go live on the actual network, and a discovery centre, that offers a hands-on taste of what the NBN will provide consumers and business alike.
The Network Service
The Network Service and Operations Centre will remain open 24×7, 365 days of the year, the company says, in order to ensure the network remains as disruption-free as possible and clients can continue to be served. Serving out of the NSOC area are a 24-hour, 7 days per week Customer Operations Team that provides assistance to clients, a Network Surveillance Team which monitors and manages the network and when all is said and done an Operations Support Team that oversees network maintenance programs.
"The facilities at Docklands are the nerve centre of the National Broadband Network and a hub for future research as we bring broadband to life across Australia," NBN Co CEO Mike Quigley said in a statement.
The service activation centre in the meantime will be the place for NBN Co's wholesale clients to get clients connected to the NBN - it'll support the management of premises and addresses, appointment calendars, activation and testing of NBN services and lastly manage the NBN Co's field resources who implement the network.
