Nvidia boss touts GPU cloud computing push to boost mobile device peformance
Chief executive Jen-Hsun Huang outlined the technologies that would allow the company's latest GPUs to be used in cloud-based computing while his keynote address at the GPU Research Conference.
Super computer in their hands
"We can make this research highly pervasive so anyone in this audience can get a super computer in their hands," he said.
In particularly, he said it is aiming to put the power of GPUs like the Tesla K20 onto Citrix's virtualisation software. Using advancements in their Kepler innovation the company has been able to create a GPU in other words efficient enough to run on a cloud based server.
Kepler innovation is Nvidia's self-described "greatest technical achievement to date". It improves upon Nvidia's older Fermi innovation to create more powerful and efficient chip architectures.
The plan has been given an early thumbs up
The plan has been given an early thumbs up by industry analysts who noted the innovation's potential usefulness to cloud gaming and entertainment developers.
Nvidia's use of Kepler innovation in the cloud can allow for graphic designers to perform heavy graphical work on any device, and give consumers the ability to play high-end games on less powerful devices.
