Optimus 2X, Black and 3D to get Android 4.0 update

Late this afternoon LG’s Australian subsidiary confirmed the range of Android devices launched by the company this year will all receive an update to the latest edition of Google’s open source system, dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich, with a roadmap to be unveiled while December.

The statement

The statement, issued on behalf of the local LG subsidiary, confirmed the Optimus 2X, Optimus Black and Optimus 3D — all of which are available through major carriers including Telstra, Optus and Vodafone — will receive an update to the then and there edition of Android that was just launched by Google.

“LG confirms today that the Android 4.0 will be at first available for the following high-end LG smartphones which were introduced this year:  Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D,” LG said in the statement.

However the news isn’t so good for LG’s Android phones not launched this year, with the company remaining coy on the potential for updates for previous year devices.

The Android 4

“We are as well continuing to evaluate the Android 4.0 OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones to make the software available on as many LG smartphones as possible,” the company continued.

Android ICS includes a number of new and highly anticipated features, including an in every respect revamped user experience, redone notification, resizeable widgets, quick response tools, better control over data usage and a number of fun components including the ability to unlock devices using facial recognition.

The Optimus 3D

The Optimus 3D was already scheduled to receive an update to Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” in January then and there year, with the Black as well set to receive the same update while Q1 2012.
