Philips GoGear Connect 3.5 is an Android-powered media player
Philips unveiled a new version of its GoGear Connect media player. Powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread, GoGear Connect 3.5 comes with Wi-Fi connectivity, 720p HD video support, Philips’ FullSound and Surround for Movies technologies. That is, it’s an Android smartphone without cellular radio, so you’ll be able to use most apps from the Android Market and even make calls with VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) customers like Skype.
In related news, the Dutch giant as well unveiled a series of “Philips Made for Android” headsets, which allow customization of controls, offering easy call and music management “enhanced by sound optimization and personalization capabilities” through the free Philips MyHeadset app…
The question is – does anyone in effect want an Android-powered media player? Honestly I don’t see Philips and any other maker of such products shipping those in volumes. What do you think?
Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. The "convergence" is what he's most excited about, and writing about it is the straightway logical thing to do. He thinks that using a smartphone is what everyone who cares about their time should do. To boot to his interests in mobile phones, Dusan as well loves to experiment with the latest web and mobile 2.0 services. The idea of accessing and managing your information from any device no matter where you are simply amazes him. Whether it's an online to-do list, note taking service or a video sharing social network, he's there to try it out. He admits although, he's after all searching for the ultimate web-based organizational tool, which "sings" perfectly with the mobile PIM application. Dusan used to run SymbianWatch.com which later became part of IntoMobile. He lives in Serbia, South-East Europe, from where he edits the site on a daily basis.
