Sarasota tech startup in financial dispute
SARASOTA - Savtira, the cloud computing company started last year by former Sarasota resident Timothy M. Roberts, is embroiled in a financial dispute with a local client and business partner.
"We thought Savtira's cloud innovation would make our tablets distinctive, to go head to head with Apple and their iCloud," Hurst said.
Savtira has raised millions of dollars from investors for its cloud computing storage venue, with the aim of competing with Apple and its iTunes store. Online clients pay for the ability to download digital music, moves and television shows.
Application for $2
Based on an application for $2.65 million in state and local tax incentives, the company expects to create 265 jobs as early as this year as it rolls out its new digital platform. The company's anticipated sales and hiring have caused some observers -- including Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn -- to call Savtira a local business success story.
