Overseas VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) networks are believed to have been used to send out thousands of terrifying "death threats" by SMS message, in what is one of the weirdest mass SMS messages ever.

Sure, I get phone calls from place to place on crackly VoIP connections with some warbly foreign voice trying to tell me I've won a $1000 voucher or that my computer has a problem, however a death threat?
