The West on Thursday
TELECOMMUNICATIONS were back online yesterday as Telecom Fiji Limited switched on back-up generators throughout the West on Thursday.
A company statement quoted networks general manager Marika Vada as saying the decision to activate emergency operation services was made in response to the government's declaration of a state of natural disaster in parts of the west.
The enabling of back-up generators
Mr Vada said with the enabling of back-up generators, essential telecommunication services to their clients in most affected areas were temporarily restored.
However, preliminary reports show that the unavailability of power forced the shutdown of some transmission sites. Clients using PABX systems and cordless phones are as well advised to switch to a standard company analog phone to have access to telecommunication services while power outages.
