Top ten most downloaded applications in all app stores

Rovio Mobile's Angry Birds application is the most downloaded app across the Amazon Appstore, the Apple App Store for iPad, the Apple App Store for iPhone, the RIM BlackBerry App World, the Google Android Market, the Nokia Ovi Store and the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Marketplace for 2011.

Angry Birds beat social networking app Facebook and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calling app Skype to claim the coveted title. The ranking comes courtesy of app store analyst Distimo, a company that tracks apps and provides worldwide mobile application store analytics. "We matched apps at the same time across all platforms, and as well matched the free and paid versions of one app at the same time for this analysis," said Distimo. "The most downloaded app of 2011 - when looking at the total free and paid download volumes of these matched apps combined - is Angry Birds."
