
UW to be part of cloud-computing project
The University of Waterloo is among seven Ontario universities that will be working with tech giant IBM in computer innovation, accessing a virtual "cloud" computing centre from all seven schools.
The supercomputing initiative
The supercomputing initiative, announced Tuesday, is funded by $20 million from the federal government, $15 million from the Ontario government and up to $175 million from the global corporation IBM by 2014.
The cloud-computing centre will allow researchers to deal with massive amounts of information and come up with solutions related to health care, water conservation, the management of energy as then as city infrastructure issues just as improving traffic flow.

Cambridge-North Dumfries MP Gary Goodyear said the cloud-computing partnership between government and industry is unparalleled and world-class.
"This gives the University of Waterloo a hand up to produce more spinoff companies and make moreover discoveries based on existing innovation," Goodyear said.
