Verizon challenges FCC's net neutrality rules
In a move that should surprise thoroughly no one who has followed the saga of net neutrality in the U.S., Verizon Communications, the parent company of Verizon Wireless, has filed for an appeal of the finalized net neutrality rules that the Federal Communications Commission recently released.
The regulations
Verizon does not agree with the regulations, and has filed to stop them from being enacted. "Verizon is fully committed to an open Internet. We are deeply concerned by the FCC's assertion of broad authority to impose potentially sweeping and unneeded regulations on broadband networks and services and on the Internet itself. We believe this assertion of authority is inconsistent with the statute and will create uncertainty for the communications industry, innovators, investors and consumers," said the company's general counsel in a statement.
