VoIP company Messagenet begs EU to consider Microsoft-Skype antitrust concerns
No one in effect thought that Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype would be smooth as silk. Skype is, in short, an in every respect different beast than some of the independent app and game development shops Microsoft has gobbled up earlier. It’s a massive, global voice and video calling service with more than 170 million users.
First, that Microsoft guarantee it won’t bundle Skype with Windows. That one seems like a no-brainer, since Microsoft was already forced to yank out its own web browser and offer up a ballot screen to users. Microsoft doesn’t need to bundle Skype, and it won’t. Skype functionality will almost truly find its way into certain apps — like Live Messenger and Lync — however Skype can promote itself just fine without becoming Microsoft bloatware.
