IBasis and Reliance Communications to Establish First IPX Connection in India

iBasis, a KPN company, today announced that leading Indian service provider Reliance Communications will connect to iBasis' growing IP eXchange network. IPX offers a then and there-generation alternative to the public Internet. It provides the flexibility and efficiency of IP with the security and reliable quality associated with traditional TDM networks. This is particularly significant for Reliance and other mobile network operators as they transition to IP to improve quality, capture efficiencies and support new services, just as voice over LTE (Long Term Evolution, latest standard in the mobile network technology), IP videoconferencing, and HD voice.

"We have always believed in taking bold steps to offer innovative and first-of-its-kind services to our clients, and our partnership with iBasis to leverage their extensive IP expertise and IPX network is but another step in that direction," said Mr. Punit Garg, President, Reliance Communications. "With the forthcoming advent of LTE and other innovations in the country, we are confident that IPX will be an important component that will enable us to support and deliver the then generation of high quality voice and exciting new data services and provide a unequalled experience to our subscribers."

Leveraging the company's more than 15 years of experience in IP research, the iBasis IPX is a secure, managed IP interconnection service based on GSMA specifications. It provides a reliable network for the company's voice and mobile data services and a robust, interoperable platform for innovative IP-based services hereafter.

The most immediate

"Guaranteed high quality VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is the most immediate and compelling business case for the IPX today," said Willem Offerhaus, iBasis CEO. "IPX is as well essential for LTE Roaming and will accelerate the development and growth of exciting new services just as HD Voice and IP videoconferencing. The iBasis IPX provides the security, scalability and guaranteed quality necessary to be a robust technology platform for a new generation of services."
