IT firms lure Philippine businesses to invest in cloud computing

Information and communications research companies are ever more active in urging businesses in the Philippines to use cloud computing in order to grow their enterprises and save on IT infrastructure and manpower costs.

Companies just as Globe Telecom, IBM, and ArcusIT are just some of the notable tech companies that unveiled their latest cloud computing solutions.

Cloud computing, as defined by Globe, comprises any subscription-based service that increases a company’s IT capacity or capabilities without investing in new infrastructure or licensing new software

The launch of its Dynamic Infrastructure Services

Globe to illustrate announced the launch of its Dynamic Infrastructure Services, a latest addition to its portfolio of cloud computing solutions.

Globe said DIS reduces the complexity of cloud computing by leveraging pre-configured and fully-tested elements so enterprises can build private clouds at a lower cost.

IBM in its turn launched to the local market its new server solutions designed to expand cloud and analytics capabilities across its entire portfolio, helping make its so-called "Smarter Computing" a reality for SMEs.

The design of the servers

"From the design of the servers, software and services, IBM solutions are created to help accelerate the journey to Smarter Computing," said Ireen Catane, country executive for Systems and Innovation Group at IBM Philippines.

IBM said many of its customers today are looking for solutions that can help them handle specific business challenges and to make better use of existing IT infrastructures. And some of these main solutions are cloud computing, analytics and other smarter computing solutions in order to help their businesses grow.

New version of its BladeCenter Foundation for Cloud

Among IBM's latest solutions is a new version of its BladeCenter Foundation for Cloud, an integrated virtualization platform with built-in system management and preconfigured with servers, storage, and networking.

Yet for the Philippine-based cloud infrastructure service provider ArcusIT, the company recently conducted its first leg of channels partnership program aimed at building relationships with local businesses in the cloud.

ArcusIT's affair centered on how the cloud has influenced people’s personal computing experience, targeting 2015 as a year for cloud computing to become an essential part of IT solutions in business.

Jon Alcartado, operations manager of Arcus IT, said cloud computing in the Philippines is expected to expand and can become an inter-connected network in the then and there three to five years.
