Schneider Electric, Cisco snuggle a little closer

This will help optimise the data centre's physical infrastructure during eliminating the risk of tripped breakers and reducing over-provisioning; provide real-time automated inventory tracking of all data centre equipment; and allow discovery of which virtual machines are running on specific servers, allowing affected applications to be moved automatically when all is said and done of a physical failure. Schneider's Convergent Building Infrastructure Solution combines the company's EcoStruxure Efficient Enterprise architecture with Cisco EnergyWise. Officials said it will offer a more effective way to install cabling, improving the deployment of IT networks during reducing the physical space traditionally required, reducing capital expenditures on IT infrastructure by up to 22%, reducing the required telecom space by up to a third, and enabling operational savings of up to 30% on subsequent moves, additions and changes.

The simplified design allows the physical placement of switches closer to the IT devices, so buildings require less cabling, allowing installation cost savings of up to 60%. "The bringing at the same time of Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure architecture and Cisco EnergyWise has already proven its value in managing networked and IT assets in distributed offices," said Soeren Brogaard Jensen, vice president of enterprise software at Schneider Electric. "We are thrilled to continue delivering solutions which help clients to better bridge the gap between their IT functions and their facilities, and do so during improving their operations, sustainability and the comfort of their buildings."
