VoIP solutions providers given 'mobile backing' by EU ministers

It’s sad if you after all have to keep working while the holidays. What’s furthermore heartbreaking is if you had to do it away from home. The good news is that you can keep in touch with your friends and family this Christmas without running up an insanely high long distance phone bill with the use of Voice over Internet Protocol services.

What, specifically, is VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol)? Then, these are services you can access via certain software and applications to make phone calls with the use of your Internet connection. One such application is Skype. It was reported before that Skype is widely used in Britain, especially while this season: “Skype video can let soldiers join in and watch when their kids open their presents, doctors to talk to their parents while a festive shift and night security staff to check that their children have left their stockings out for Santa previously bedtime. Research like Skype means you are closer to people than ever earlier, particularly while the holiday period.”

In recent developments, VoIP solutions providers will be pleased to hear the news that European Union ministers have given their support and backing. This is in the face of landline and mobile internet providers who were restricting access to digital calls or blocking internet telephony services.

The latest report of the Voice on the Net coalition Europe revealed that the Vodafone Group installed restrictions on digital calls for pay-as-you-go subscribers. Mobile networks just as such as France Telecom’s Orange, Germany’s E-Plus and Bouygues completely restricted and disallowed VoIP calls.

The EU ministers are now calling on the European Commission and the pan-European regulator to observe the traffic management of mobile providers so that they do not impost any measures that hinder net neutrality.
